Tired of BSOD's, rebooting, shelling out huge amounts of money for broken
software you can't fix yourself, or just looking for help on getting the last
hitches out of your Linux installation? Consider joining
UULUG, the
*nix/linux/*bsd user group for Utrecht University.
NB: world domination not guaranteed, but it's probably your best shot...
I have set up a short course
Entrance Level HTML
which is intended to get people with little or no experience in HTML started in
designing their own web pages. You will find the lecture notes here. Also check
the download area for the Quick Reference.
I'm running a presentation Introduction to Perl. The HTML version of
the sheets
are online.
The dromedary (one hump camel) and related animals
are property of O'Reilly. Yes, all of them, they say so themselves...
If you're like me, you probably can't remember all the handy little commands in
VI, and you don't have enough fingers to hold down
<esc><meta><alt><ctrl><shift>. In that case,
consider NEdit, a Motif based visual editor
providing programmable syntax highlighting (not just keywords), a flexible macro
language, client-server mode, etc. It's available for free on most flavours of
Unix, and yes, you can get the source...
Apparently the 'N' in NEdit stands for 'Nirvana'. Ooohh!
Just interesting stuff that has caught my attention, and might be
worthwile looking at.
- Ever heard about Open Source software? If not, find out what it is
all about at
www.opensource.org.
BillG has seen the light. Well, that is, he's let us look up his sleeves, and
look what fell out.
- Eric Raymond's essay
The Cathedral and the Bazaar has already had a large impact
on the way software is developed and published. Read the related papers too,
while you're there, especially the parody.
