Henry Hooghiemstra

Salomon B. Kroonenberg (1947) is professor of geology at the TU Delft. He holds an MSc in Physical Geography and a PhD in geology of the University of Amsterdam (1976), and worked as a geologist in Suriname, Swaziland and Colombia between 1972 and 1982. In 1982 he was appointed as professor of geology at Wageningen University, and in 1996 at the TU Delft. He has supervised over 15 PhD theses on Cenozoic fluvial and coastal dynamics, sediment geochemistry and remote sensing in projects in Europe, Latin America, China and the Caspian area. His present research focuses on the response of coastal sedimentary systems to rapid sea-level change in the Caspian area as a proxy to sequence stratigraphy, in close coordination with industry. He published over 100 scientific papers. He is Past President of the Royal Netherlands Geological and Mining Society and President of the Earth and Climate Council of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences of the Netherlands. He is a foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and a member of KNGMG, EAGE, IAS and SEPM.
