Harry Doust has occupied the chair of "Regional and Petroleum Geology" at th Vrije Universiteit for the last two years. His interests lie strongly in the integration of data from different disciplines and sources, and the development of regional understanding that can be born from this. He sees himself therefore more as an integrator than as a specialist researcher.
At the end of last year, Harry retired from Shell, after more than 30 years of service in various parts of the World, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Far East. During this time he has studied the geology of sedimentary basins world-wide. His experience has been greatest in Europe, the Far East and Latin America, for which he spent several years evaluating new opportunities for hydrocarbon exploration investment. The material discussed in the presentation was prepared by Shell regional studies staff working with Harry when he led the company global geological studies team in the early to mid 1990's. During his last years with Shell, Harry's function was global geological adviser.
Harry Doust holds a PhD degree in palaeontology from Imperial College, University of London.
