Workshops, Lectures and Conferences

 

 

 

¨ The International Conference on Assessing Pathogen Fate, Transport and Risk in Natural and Engineered Water Treatment will take place from the 23rd until the 26th of September, 2012, in Banff Center, Banff, Alberta, Canada.

 

¨ The 10th World Congress on Computational Mechanics will take place from the 8th until the 13th of July, 2012, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. For more information on the conference, please click here.

 

¨ The Boussinesq Lecture 2012 will take place on the 11th of October, 2012, in the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). For more information, please click here.

 

¨ A colloquium on “Mechanics of Unsaturated Porous Media: Effective stress principle; from micromechanics to thermodynamics” will take place in Utrecht, Utrecht University, Department of Earth Sciences, from the 27th until the 30th of August, 2012. Presentations, Visits and Conference Participations

 

 

¨ Dr. S. Mitra, from the University of Alberta in Canada, Department of Mechanical Engineering, will visit our group on the 16th of July, 2012.

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh participated in the “Free Boundary Problems: Theory and Applications” conference, which was held from the 11th until the 15th of June, in Chiemsee, Germany. He gave a keynote lecture on “Models of multiphase flow in porous media, including fluid-fluid interfaces”.

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh has been invited to be a keynote speaker at the XIX International Conference on Computational Methods in Water Resources (CMWR 2012), which was be held from the 17th until the 21st of June, 2012, in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Urbana, Illinois, U.S.A.Majid’s lecture was on the 19th of June, with the title “Advances in theories of twophase flow in porous media; Theoretical, computational, and experimental studies”. After Urbana, Majid went to the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, to give a Darcy Lecture on 21st of June.

 

¨ Amir Raoof attended the 22nd Salt Water Intrusion Meeting (SWIM22), which was held in Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from the 17th until the 22nd of June 2012. He gave a presentation on  “Reactive pore-scale modeling of seawater-fresh water mixing interface” by Amir Raoof, Ruud Schotting, and Majid Hassanizadeh.

 

¨ Mojtaba Mahmoodlu presented his work on “Vapour phase oxidation of trichloroethylene, ethanol, and toluene by solid potassium permanganate: Kinetic study”  in the 22nd V. M. Goldschmidt Conference , which was held from the 24th until the 29th of June, in Montreal, Canada.

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh, Qiulan Zhang, Imran Mohammad, and Nikos K. Karadimitriou, attended the last Gordon Conference, which took place in Les Diablerets, Switzerland, from the 24th until the 29th of June. Qiulan presented a poster on “Mobilization of Colloids by the Moving Fluorinert-water Interface through a PDMS Micro-model”. Imran presented a poster on “Thermographic experiments and modeling of thermal dispersion effects on temperature”, Nikos presented a poster “On the inclusion of interfacial area as a separate variable in quasi-static, two-phase, flow studies”. Majid Hassanizadeh was the Discussion Leader for the session "Moving Across Scales”. Majid was also the keynote speaker at the Gordon Research Seminar (June 23-24), which was held before GRC.
