¨ The Summer School on "Role of Interfacial Area in Two-Phase Flow and Transport in Porous Media - Theory, Experiment, and Modeling" will be held in Utrecht, from the 20th until the 24th of July 2009. More information is available here.

¨ A one-day symposium is being organized by students of the Pretige Master program System Earth Modelling, under the supervision of Dr. Gert-Jan Reichart and Majid Hassanizadeh. It is entitled “The Four Elements; a System Earth Modelling Symposium” and will be held on April 28 in Utrecht.

¨ Within the framework of the International Research Training Group "NUPUS" , an international conference on Non-linearities and Upscaling in Porous Media” will take place in Stuttgart , Germany, from the 5th to the 7th of October 2009.

The conference will comprise of the following sessions:

 

- Numerical Methods

- Model Concepts

- Special Applications

- Fundamental Methods

-  Poster session (with award for best poster)

 

The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for exchanging experiences and discussing new model concepts.

¨ Professor Arne Graue and Dr. Martin Ferno, from the Department of Physics and Technology at the University of Bergen and will be visiting the Department of Geosciences on the 17th of March. Martin Ferno will give a talk on  Experimental measurements of multiphase functions using phase pressures and local fluid saturation imaging”. The talk will take place in room Z 2.20 at the second floor of the Geosciences building at 14:00h.

¨ Water Resources Research has a new editorial team consisted of:

      The new team has invited Majid Hassanizadeh to stay on as Associate       Editor until the end of December 2009 (his previous term ended in December 2008).

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh has been invited to be a member of the International Scientific Committee of the conference Frontiers In Sub-Surface Technology (FSST 2010), to be held at Delft University of Technology, Geo-engineering Section from the 20th until the 22nd of January 2010. He will also be the co-convener of a session on (Bio)chemical and physical processes.

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh has been invited to chair the Evaluation Committee of NWO Innovation Program VENI in 2009. For more information about the program, please click here.

 

¨ Majid Hassanizadeh has been invited by The Institute of Chemical Engineering and High Temperature Chemical Processes (ICE-HT), Patras, Greece to give a seminar as part of celebrations related to 25 years of operation of the Institute. The visit will take place on June 11th and he will talk about Modelling two-phase flow and transport in industrial porous media”.

¨ The submission entitled "Systematic study on the effects of pH, ionic strength and ion composition on virus attachment/detachment in saturated sand columns" by Gholamreza Sadeghi, Jack Schiven, Thilo Behrends, S.Majid Hassanizadeh has been accepted  as an oral presentation during the 1st International Conference on Microbial Transport and Survival in the Subsurface to be held in Niagara-on-the-Lake in May 2009.
