Traineeship abroad
Many of our MSc students choose to carry out part of their MSc research or
traineeship abroad. In recent years, the following students have spent
between three to 10 months abroad:
Diane van Beek (Benin),Fokke-Jan Swart(Perth, Austeralia),Jeroen Posthumus(India), Heleen C.Kiela (Oman),
Femke Rambags (Benin),Karen Stoeverad (Stuttgart University),Barend Linders (Stuttgart University),
Ankie Sterk (Norway),Wijb Sommer (Kazan), Cjesrmir de Boer (Stuttgart), Maartje Boon (Moscow),
Tony Duijster (Colorado School of Mines), Barbara Snacken (Colorado School of Mines), Suze-Anne Korteland
(Stuttgart University), Shiva Shojaei Tazehkand (U. of California, Riverside), Manuel
de Vries (Barcelona). Here is more info about some of them:
Pieter van der Zon is currently participating in experimental studies related to NAPLs in the unsaturated zone at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil. More info here
Barend Linders worked on, "Use of gamma-ray system for measuring soil moisture redistribution". Stuttgart University
Germany,September-December 2009 .
Karin Stoeverud worked on, "Modeling Convection-Enhanced Drug Delivery(CED)to brain tumours". Stuttgart University
Germany, April-September 2009.
Suze Anne Korteland worked on, "The dynamic capillary capillary pressure effect in two phase flow". Stuttgart University
Germany and Utrecht University, April-July 2007.
Barbara Snacken worked on, "Well clogging; mechanical processes",Colorado USA, Spring
2007 .
Manuel de Vries worked on, "Application of a
multiple-point geo-statistical method to an inverse hydrogeological problem";Polytechnic University of Barcelona
Spring 2007.
Wijb Sommer worked on density dependent flow in porous media. He has visited University of Kazan (Russia) to work on a model developed by prof. Andrey Egorov and dr. Denis Demidov. This model scales up density dependent processes at the pore scale using a technique called homogenization. In 2004 this model was successfully used in cooperation with prof. Ruud Schotting (UU) to reproduce breakthrough curves of column experiments. “The visit was both exciting as fruitful. Actually results where exciting too!” said Wijb.

Cjesrmir de Boer carried out his MSc research project at the VEGAS research laboratory of Stuttgart University, Germany.
His project regards transport of iron particles in aquifers.

-
Shiva Shojaei Tazehkand conducted her MSc research project at the University of California, Riverside, US.
Her research topic was on the influence of EPS (extra cellular polymeric substances) on adsorption of bacteria on sand, in present of different solution chemistry and low temperature in saturated soil.
More information about Shiva's project “click here”.
-
Maatje Boon carried out hes MSc research project in the Hydrogeology Group at Moscow State University.
Her project regards injection of radioactive waste in the subsurface.
