Title and short description of current research project
Geothermal potential at the Uithof area, Utrecht - *presence and geothermal potential
of a fault zone in the subsurface of the Uithof area.*
I am working on this subject together with Kees van der Hoorn at the company
IF Technology in Arnhem. Goal is to give an advice to the energy section of
the University Utrecht whether or not a geothermal project is feasible for
the university. Main work has been to create a detailed geological model and
investigate hydrological characteristics of the reservoir, using seismic and
petrophysical data. Software tools from IF Technology along with modeling
(COMSOL) is used to determine the geothermal potential of the reservoir.
Our supervisors are Wouter van Leeuwen (IF Technology & Hydrogeology Group,
UU) and Ruud Schotting (Hydrogeology Group, UU). This project is almost
finished now, since the internship last untill the end of January.
After this internship I will start my MSc research project. But as said, I
am not yet sure which topic I will pick. Goal is to graduate in September
2011.
