This section contains books by members of the Fluvial Geomorphology and Sedimentology Research Group, on Physical Geography of the Netherlands and Western Europe.
Berendsen & Stouthamer (2001) summarize 40 years of research on the palaeogeographic evolution of the Holocene Rhine-Meuse delta. Most of the other books are in Dutch, but some have a summary in English. Books that are no longer available from the publisher, may still be available from Lingua Terra, a second-hand bookstore.

- Dr. Henk J.A. Berendsen
- Dr. Henk Berendsen led the field course in the Rhine-Meuse delta since 1973. He has been associate professor at Utrecht University from 1985-2005. Together with Prof. Koster he supervised the research group of fluvial geomorphology and sedimentology. In addition to the books listed here, he co-edited special editions of international journals. Although formally retired now, he is still involved in research, and occasional teaching.

Palaeogeographic development of the Rhine-Meuse delta gives an overview of the results of 40 years of research on the Holocene evolution of the Rhine-Meuse delta. It is based on an extensive database containing over 200,000 core descriptions, 1250 radiocarbon dates and over 45,000 dated archeological artifacts. The Holocene evolution is illustrated in a geological map (scale 1:100.000) of the entire fluvial delta, palaeogeographic maps, and an E-W cross section. The publication comes in a box (A4 size), containing the book, three colored maps and a CD-ROM. Availability: Sold out per November 20, 2006. A CD-ROM with the complete contents of the book, including revised versions of the tables and printable versions of the coloured maps is now available from the authors, € 20,- (including shipping). Three printed full-color maps are still available separately from the authors (unfolded, € 15,- including handling and shipping). Digital (ArcGis and Freehand) versions of the maps are available upon request from the authors. Note that these are not free of charge. |

Based on 90,000 boreholes and approximately 65 radiocarbon dates, it is concluded that sedimentation in the fluvial area and the intertidal area in the Netherlands did not occur synchronously, as was previously presumed.
