Research of Liao Chang
Greigite magnetic properties and the expression of magnetotactic bacteria in modern and ancient rocks
Liao's principal research interests are investigating the magnetic properties of natural magnetic materials (in rocks, sediments, soils, and biological bodies), as well as their synthetic analogy, and how these magnetic particles record the past geomagnetic field and trace the environmental process and climate change.

To investigate these properties, heI uses a range of experimental techniques and micromagnetic modeling.

The experimental techniques include conventional magnetometry, as well as neutron scattering, synchrotron radiation, ferromagnetic resonance and Mössbauer spectroscopy.
