The purpose of a central data storing facility is to make the data collected in the BISE project accessible to the people involved in the project. It also provides a backup facility.

A project description and a data inventory list is accessible through the web:
http://www.geo.uu.nl/Research/Geochemistry/bise.htm
Check these pages to get an overview of the data available.

The data is stored on modeling.geo.uu.nl and can be accessed through ftp. The directory structure on modeling follows the outline given on the web. For access, we need the IP address (or range) of your computer(s) and you need the password. If you experience problems accessing data using your webbrowser try a different browser or use an ftp-program. File transfer is being logged.

By using this facility, you agree to the following rules:
1. everybody is uploading the data him/herself, in coordination with the responsible at Utrecht University (see individual fieldtrip pages). For help contact meile@geo.uu.nl
2. when you add data give a brief description of the data uploaded (documentationID.txt, on the top level of each field trip directory (e.g. .../bise1/documentation1.txt). please download, modify and upload this file again. The description should contain what was measured, analytical method, name of the owner, contact information a.s.o.
3. keep your own additional backup. Several people have access to this account, i.e. can upload but also accidentally delete data.
4. scan for viruses before you upload and scan when you download.
5. notify
meile@geo.uu.nl when you make changes that require an update of the webpages.

*** Access to the data account is limited to project members and uploading data does not imply any transfer of ownership. Publication is restricted to the PI who owns the data.
However, should you be unwilling to upload data, please still provide a description of the data you have in the documentation file, together with contact information ***
